WIP - Elegant Curves


I was faced with a challenge last week that I had no spare time for. Even though I would not get it done for the deadline of the challenge I wanted to complete this table runner anyway. I will be showing a demo on the Quick Curve ruler next week and wanted one simple piece from the book One Wonderful Curve by sewkindofwonderful.  
I changed up the layout and block number to accommodate my fabric and color choices to go with.  Will I always love grunge fabric? I think so.....
 One of my goals this year for myself was to try more dense quilting that is not matchstick.  I had fun with this but I chose to backstitch instead of bury my threads and I should have not done that.  I have a knot button on my machine but still have to bury the ends so I am curious to what most of you do?
For fun I took this on my front door. I love how the soft light shines through.

This is beautiful! Tough question on the thread end question. I'm still torn and I often use different methods in the same quilt (I promise I'll decide on the "best" one someday and use just that). Depending on the use and how perfectionist I want to be, I change up my ending method. If it's for a quilt that is meant to be loved and dragged around and not perfect, I backstitch and use the knot and thread cutting button on my machine. If it's for a quilt that I really want to look perfect, I'll leave long tails and knot and bury threads myself.

This looks awesome! As much as I can, I try to start on the edge so I can trim off the thread or hide it in the binding.

Ooooooh, THAT's what that button is for! Janome calls it a lock stitch but it just makes a knot!

Beautiful quilting, I know what you mean about sewing in your ends, I don't enjoy doing it, but when I'm done I'm glad I bothered!

Your quilting turned out great and I love your color choices on this, too! I've had the same question about how to finish off the threads. I don't like how backstiching looks but I hate burying the threads by hand.

"Mountain High, Valley Low"  48" x 38" improv from scraps line quilting in diamond pattern The improv triangle QAL with Nicholas Ball on IG was so much fun. It was just the most glorious distraction for me. I was able to sit down and make a few blocks at a time and didn't have to worry about measurements and sizes. It was just what I needed during my waiting game with my health issues.  The back piece was something I hand dyed a while back. I think it worked pretty great for this back with a few leftover blocks. I had several versions going and of course didn't think it was going to end up so big but it was just so fun to work on.  Luckily I had just the right aurifil thread. I ended up using most of the lighter ones which were a mix of 50 and 40 weight.  It took a long time to figure out what I wanted to quilt across all those colors. Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. All scrap strings, scrap batting pieces and scrap binding.   I am a Maker 24" x 24" pattern by Liz Harvantine   HERE matchstick quilting I have loved this pattern since it came out and this is my third time in making the small wall hanging size.   It is really fun to make.  This piece was inspired by a piece of text fabric that a friend who happens to be co-chair of this quilt show, gave me a few weeks ago. It has text and sheet music on it. Then I found some fabric that has sewing pattern terms and quilt blocks on it. Some fabric with writing, photography, architecture and diagrams and put them all together to represent the makers of many beautiful things. This wall hanging will be donated to one of my local quilt guilds for their quilt show auction coming up Oct 6-8 to raise money for the guild.   I might have to buy it back I love it so much! Urbanologie Quilt Along with SomeKindOfWonderful is underway and I have been doing my best to keep doing the weekly blocks. Dealing with the mess of a remodel in my home it has been challenging but I am now only one week behind.  Slow and steady wins the race right?    I love using the Quick Curve Ruler to create these blocks.
