Come on get Happy Finish!

Image
"Come on Get Happy"  Triangle Along - HERE I debated over the name of this little quilt. I felt like it was needing a name like Lily pad or Sunlight on the Pond. After my trials of working on this quilt a few weeks ago and I titled my post "Come on Get Happy", it sort of stuck in my head like the song.  You remember it right??? Partridge Family probably dates me a bit but it makes me smile to sing the song so I think it will make someone happy to get this quilt with that name too!              "Weathered Wood" 60 x 75 Friday and the end of the month...all is good! I am posting my finish for the month, the "Barn Door" from the QAL over at Sarah Quilts . I am so happy with my finish. I am even more excited that it was all from my stash.  It was cold enough outside that the tape kept freezing and letting go so I had to just lay it down for pics.  I used the other hour glass block on the back and then used more stash fabrics to piece it all together. I kept with the Barn door theme and tried to quilt it up with a giant "Z" and I think the placement of some of the fabrics lend themselves to the idea of slats of wood.  It just goes to show that making yourself use what you have sometimes can be surprising. :)  I really love this one and I think it is my largest quilt yet on my home machine.  I am linking this up with  HERE my original goal post is  HERE Also linking up with Crazy mom Quilts for Finish it

It's Friday! Lava Lamp Quilt

Image
So glad it is Friday and I have a finish this week!!          This was inspired by Jacquie Gering's version of a tumbler quilt pattern called "Lava Lamp Revisited" seen in the special issue of Modern Patchwork spring 2013.  This quilt is made from my stash. I actually won this fabric last year in a giveaway. (I already used it for a childs craft tote bag that I shared on here before). It is Michael Miller fabric designed by  Tamara Kate called "Flight Pattern".  Backing is a piece I also had in my stash from a line of Dear Stella. Worked perfect. just added some jumbo tumblers from a few pieces to compliment the front. Organic wavy line quilting to sort of go with the lava lamp vibe. Bound with scraps that fell off the sides and some leftover end pieces.  Finish size approx. 48" x 70". Flowers compliments of my husband for Valentine's day and they are still going strong! :) Linking up with Finish it up Friday

Finish it up

Image
Well, I was hoping to have a complete finish today instead I just have a finished top. I am in slug-bug mode and can't seem to snap out of it. I did snap a pic of the top though so that is progress.   Tumbler blocks - Lava Lamp style from a older magazine which I will write about when I have my finish. The fabric is mostly Flight Pattern from Michael Miller. It is hard to see some of the light print fabrics but it is so joyful up close. I waited all day for the sun to shine and it was...? not sure what happened there.  Then I put up a few more Mod Olive QAL (sewkindofwonderful) blocks up and took a pic of my design wall.   Not sure how I am going to lay them out yet but I have half the blocks done so far. They are a bit tricky and I am not liking some of the seams but for now this is progress.  Linking up with Crazy mom Quilts HERE

Finish it up Friday, Sat

Image
Friday... I mean Saturday already. I am slow to the linky party but I will say I had some fun making the last two blocks for my SkillBuilder BOM from 2013 @ Pileofabrics.  This is the flange block and it was so fun to do. I have done some circles like this before but the extra wide flange not. I love how it came together.  I loved it so much I decided on doing some tiny piecing for the final block in the series since I was not doing the applique blocks. Here is what I came up with: I see the sun must have just been coming out when I snapped this one. oops! I love the misaligned lines.  Most importantly all 20 blocks are finished and I just need to quilt up the last half of them before learning how to piece the quilted blocks together. I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel! :) Linking up with Crazy mom Quilts Finish it up Friday HERE

A Lovely Year of Finishes -Jan Edition Finish

Image
Here it is Friday and the end of the month. I am sad it is going so fast but I think I have some pretty good momentum going and I "hope" that takes me into Feb.  My January Finish for A Lovely Year of Finishes over at Bittersweet Designs and Fiber of all sorts  HERE is my Giant Starburst from the QAL over at  Canoe Ridge Creations . Original post about finish goal  HERE    It has been really windy so I have had to have my husband help but it is late in the day when he gets home so some of the pics are in the shadows. I really need to work on photography.   Yep, jumped on the IKEA fabric for this back. I love it with this. One of my favorite quilt making experiences ever! Measures 60x06 straight line quilting with Aurifil pieced binding Love the way the colors came together too! I might be using this in an upcoming contest but will have to wait and see.  Other than that I dabbled in some other crafty things. I started out thinking I was going

Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry! We have had nothing but high winds the last couple of days.  Lovely looking scorched ironing board in the corner and all for your viewing pleasure.:) I will be linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday Now I am going to let you know that yesterday was my 100th post ! whoop whoopie!!!  AND.... Dec. 31st 2013 was my 1 year Blog-anniversary ! If I would have been on task I would have hit them both pretty close to the same time. But here I am now and ready to try my hand a

Finish it up Friday (Saturday)

Image
I actually finished this quilt project up last night but in the dark gloom I could not take any pictures. Now it is very early Saturday and still not enough daylight to take a decent picture..hrmmph! I am posting it anyway so I can link up before noon. I will take a better picture (in later post) as it is going to be linked up to the first Project Quilting over at Persimmon Dreams this Sunday.  (more about the challenge in later post) My version was changed because of the scraps of batting sizes I had left. I just made the blocks using most of the batting pieces. It ended up making this repeating diamond shape.  It finished at about 42 X45 " Perfect for going on my charity pile.   This one makes me almost as happy as my  Scrap Happy Time back in Oct 2013 This was a tutorial for a QAYG Herringbone by Maureen Cracknell see link.  Linking up with Crazy mom quilts

Something ...Anything - Finish

Found this cute plaid diagonal fabric and decided to make myself something new to wear for Thanksgiving this year. The pattern is a tie scarf flowy top from New Look patterns.  Super easy Super cute and a Finish! Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday

A finished top..Yeah

Today I put the last couple borders on my experimental charm quilt design. Top is finished as planned!        I was hoarding the "Little Black Dress" charm packs for a while and wanted to experiment with my own design. Since this fabric is sort of "formal" to me I am stewing over how I want to quilt this. I think I want to practice some feathers and see if that will work for at least part of it. I am pretty critical of my FMQing work so this might not come to fruition any time soon. ;)    My photos are not all that great to show off the colors of this line of fabric but it is Yummy!  I just love it. I am so happy to have a top finished. I am going to work on some Christmas presents and practice some FMQing as soon as my machine gets back from service. Yes, finally the wrench/hammer icon came on...I don't have a choice I have to take it in. I am sad!  Guess it means to go put my design cap on and get creative. Linking up with Crazy Mom Qu

Finish it up Friday - Playing the Scales

Image
I am a tiny bit late to the Friday party. I finished the quilt in the morning, took some pictures of it to post last night but went out to dinner first. Came home looked at the photos and the front photo was missing. I had a camera glitch while taking it and silly me, did not check it out. So today I had to wait for some daylight and then decided to wash it first. Well.......the washer would not spin and drain so still getting to posting this before lunch. If you see a quilt in this post then I guess all is well! This is my first big quilt using low volume pieces with some mid to dark range prints. I was hoarding this FQ pack of Textures by Angela Walters for something but I didn't know what. With all the hoopla over the Fall quilt market right now, I realized that some of my favorite designers are coming out with new lines. Yikes...more hoarding or facing the music and getting something created. I opted for creating.  Playing the  sc

Finish..Yeah!!! Photo...Not so much

Well as I was finishing the last corner of binding this morning the phone rang and some of my family was in town to have lunch. I was done but did not knot and snip. I was so happy to go out to lunch and shop but I was knew I was not going to have daylight left for a quick pic.  So here is my finish in bad lighting. I am okay with that because...hey I got a FINISH!!! wooohooo "Moody" 44 1/2 x 45 1/2 This is the Retro Ruby quilt top from the QAL that Alyssa Lichner hosted a while back.  I actually won a prize from my quilt top but I really wanted to get it done and bound. Today was the day!  Some scraps and one reverse block on the back. The quilting curves was harder than the piecing of the curves. :) Linking up with Crazy mom quilts HERE
