Sew Sunshine

  Quickly finished the crib top I put together last Saturday SewDay for Lincoln Quilts for Kids. I made a girly quilt last week and this week decided to use some of my more boyish stash to make this little boy blue quilt.  The pattern is their Streak of Sunshine pattern and is so quick to make.  I just did some simple straight-line quilting. All fabrics in my stash from quilt a while ago.    Used up the rest of the two prints on the back.  So simple and so quick and I hope it is loved by some baby boy.  Have you ever dug in your fabric stash and found all the makings for a quilt AND the receipt?? Oh gosh when I pulled out the fabrics for this boy quilt I found a bag of girly things for another quilt.....and the receipt, faded and I can't read the date but I think it has been quite a while.   Windy day here but tried to get a few snaps of this Vintage Star quilt because it is heading to  LIncoln Quilts for KIds  tomorrow.   This is the second time I made this star. I love the giant half square triangles it takes to make this quilt. Virtually no waste except for squaring up blocks. Simple tutorial can be found by Amy Smart for  We All Sew .  My bleeding heart survived the freeze last week and is back bold and big as ever.  This is the first quilt I tried to free motion quilt on with my new Babylock Jane industrial machine. It was so much fun and I felt I had so much more control with the extra harp space I now have. Scrappy Tula 38 x 48 approx stash fabrics Last week after finishing the My Way -Rebel  quilt using all fabrics from my stash I was so happy. I realized the potential of my stash and decided to dig in to more bags and totes and see what I had to make. This quilt was from a partial layer cake of Tula Pink fabrics. I decided to treat it as scrappy and add some Grunge.  At first I thought it was too busy but laying it out next to these beautiful red tulips, I think it looks happy! The colors are kind of crazy but I really like it and its scrappy feel.  In keeping with the stash and using what I have I found 6 FQs for the backing.  These are some Anna Maria Horner prints I have had for a while.  I think it works! What do you think?  Machine quilted with wavy stitch gives it great texture.   So happy to use up some of my stash...just wish it was more. So many of you quilty people have probably  read the C and T publishing post where you can ask questions about their authors. If you are lucky your question will be answered. Well, Jane Combs asked How does Victoria Findlay Wolfe do it all? I need to brutishly look at how I spend my days. ha First off....not to worry...some of Victoria's work she has help with.  Well, me too, if I play my cards right.  Since today is Saturday I figured I could channel a little VFW today and see what happens.  The biggest help I have it is to be left alone bright and early to get organized. How fun is this? I go to the park and what do a find but a nice little park bench yarn bombed.  Just right for my quilt photo!!!  Love this little find. Thank you yarn bombers!! :) This is my one block quilt. I made this design up based on a block that I used in another quilt (still a quilt top) last year...I think.   I loved how fun it was to sew up the squares and then cut them apart and make this aztec looking block.  This quilt was part of my design challenge for our guild to make a quilt for Lincoln Quilts for Kids Charity.   It was pretty windy so I am surprised that I was able to get a full on pic.  Fabrics were all from my stash.  Quilt measures 45 x 60.  Scrappy backing.  I think some tween or teen will love it.   The Final Challenge for Project Quilting @ Persimon Dreams is "Isn't it Charming".  The entire front of the quilt has to be made of 5" charms.  I happened to have two Bobbins and Bits Charm packs and 1 coordinating FQ and some I had to make some Kona snow 5" squares because all I had was white white.  I felt a bit silly cutting 5" squares then sewing them back together then cutting them in half for my border but I felt to use up the last of the charms in the border (cut these into 4ths) because it was so scrappy I needed that solid break.  I did not have a pattern for this just made wonky stars with the 5" size block an went from there. This was fun and relaxing which was great because I had limited time this week and just wanted to make it work.  All the fabric is from my stash as well as the charm packs. I have to say this was another dream quilt for me. I love ogee/gula shaped quilt patterns. I found this one a while back and filed it away as a someday project.  When Kim announced the PQ challenge this week was our favorite fabric I floundered because I love so many many different fabrics. I just happened to see ogee quilt pattern by Rebecca Johnson called "French Connection" and bells and whistles went off in my head. I have/had a bag of Little Black Dress II and some other fabrics  (like grunge...mmmmm) collected that are sort of frenchy flavored bits of yum and I knew I had to put this together.  note: the sun going down made it a little washed out here. You can see the lovely gray greege colors, cream and black and beige. All of these worked really well together. This was a bit hectic this week to figure this out and do all those curves in one week but I kept at it.  I probably have a little bit less hair on my head but I love love love this quilt. All of t

This is my quilt for the PersimonDreams  "Have a Heart" Challenge.  Season 6 project 4 already!  We had to include 12 hearts. Well...I am not a huge heart fan and I know there are lots of ways to do them out there. I wanted to improv some somehow. I came up with these.     Not all hearts have to be rounded...right? Okay so these look a bit like Mickey Mouse especially with this dotted fabric.  Fine with me!!       I quilted all around but only quilted V's in the heart blocks. I thought it would make it puffy and fun but it makes it even more like Mickey Mouse! haha        No matter how you show it...indoors or out  in the snow it still looks like 12 Mickey ears. :)  I had this cool variegated bubble fabric from Clothworks in my stash so I used that for the back.  The gray on the front is a cross hatch gray that I love but not sure where I picked that up from. Here is my Project Quilting season 6 project #2 entry held by Kim of Persimon dreams . The challenge this week was Sunrise/Sunset.  I used this tutorial from Melissa Correy over Happy Quilting . It is her Off Kilter quilt. I loved it when I saw it so I knew it was a dream quilt for me. This PQ challenge allowed me to do the theme and do a dream quilt. Bonus: all the fabrics including the backing and batting were all in my stash. You only have a week to do the challenge so this was extra easy this week. I drove over to the park by my sisters house and the sun was so bright I could not see so I went under this tree to shoot. In those few minutes the clouds rolled in and that was the last of my sun. So this version with the yellow to the top is my sunrise side....and if you flip it over  ....you see my sunset!  A park walker stopped to help me since the wind came up too. :) Thank you park walking lady!!!!
