I am getting to this link up late. My local quilt guild had their bi-annual quilt show this year. There was pre- quilt show work to be done as well as during and finishing up.  Then I had a bonus - three of my sisters showed up to surprise me for the weekend! They came to the show so I am sharing a bit of that. Only one sister new about my "So Blue" quilt - a portrait of my Mother as a young girl. You can read about the making of this quilt HERE   So now I must finish deciding what my 3rd quarter goals are: 1. My DYO Sampler needs a back and to be quilted. It is my goal for July for ALYoF so I really want to get this done.       2. I am working on a pattern test and can't reveal the quilt yet. I will say the top is done and I hope to just get it backed and quilted also. These are the scraps for the 'Flowering Lonestar" quilt coming soon.         3. You know how sometimes you get an idea in your head and you can't shake it? You might analyze the situation and say it is just not rational but then you really want to do it anyway?  This is "So Blue" a portrait of my mother when she was 16. The back building is the Joslyn art museum which I thought was fitting for my work of art! So you start and you see this is going to be a big messy project. You can almost see pieces of your hair turning gray but you keep going. Your iron is not trustworthy, you math skills are questionable but you stick to it and hope no one else in the house needs any clear space for the foreseeable future...so you keep at it.  Almost all the blocks are made up of 100 1.5" squares. The bottom row has one less row. 1960 cut 1.5" squares..yesserieeee!   Then, things start to happen. (I can tell you up close you have no idea what you are doing. Even stepping back I had to use my camera lens to look at it at such close quarte

I think my goal should be to bite the bullet and get this quilted. Since it is a scrap quilt there should be nothing to be afraid of and I should try some fun freemotion quilting on it! My goal post for 2nd Qtr you can see HERE   I am happy to say I finished both! My first finish was a carry over from Qtr 1.   I did it! I completed the top for the DYO Sampler from SewMamaSew Summer SAL designed by Sarah from Sarah Quilts HERE . I followed quite a bit of her block size layouts because I had quite a few orphan blocks that fit those sizes.  This top is made up of some orphan blocks from the 2012 Craftsy BOM and some old blocks I learned how to make from my mom. Other blocks are just scrap pieces I put together in an improv way.  I tried to get the balance of colors to play across the quilt top. Not sure I succeeded....BUT,I did use a lot of scraps and blocks. However, like most scrap projects, I still have lots of scraps from this.   sigh.......     My goal for June was to get the top done and maybe the backing. I have a couple leftover blocks for the back that I will work into the scrappy back.  I have to wait for a bit to tackle the back because this is so much bigger than I thought it would be. It is going to be a monster for me to quilt so I might have to think on it

My Favorite quilt is usually the quilt I am currently working on right now.  Sometimes though, one stays with you for some reason. This one was a QAL and made from scraps. It just all came together for me and the colors melted together so nicely.  It really is a favorite.       Tell us about your favorite quilt. When did you make it? What pattern did you use? What fabrics? I made this quilt through a QAL called The Barn Door QAL held by Sarah @Sarah Quilts HERE  earlier this year. I wanted to use just scrap fabrics that I already had. I didn't really have any idea that I had such cool fabrics! What memories or people does the quilt make you think of? First of all I actually did do something productive..I finished my great nieces "Ducky" fleece robe. I think it turned out super cute and I hope it still fits her when she needs it. Then things kind of went down hill from there. I am working on a quilt but I am not ready to share that yet. It is a lot of pieces and it will only really make sense when the top is done so I am not sharing it quite yet. So instead, I was going to share today with all of you my experiment with the lovely vegetable red/pink dye of the beets we cooked last night. I just did not want to waste the beautiful color so I got out my pretreated fabric and did some tie-dye wraps...and then I forgot about putting them in the dye after dinner. Let's just say overnight it turned into a not so beautiful brownish prune color. So to actually do something I got out some turquoise spray dye and some yellow liquid dye and set to work on one of the pieces.   Only in my first stage here. I just he
