ALYoF for March = Satisfaction


Not sure that is the correct name I want to give this quilt but it is how I am feeling. I have lots of flaws, lessons learned, and techniques tried though. There is also a bit of blood, sweat and tears but I am choosing to have 'Satisfaction' playing in my head right now. 

 
 
Skillbuilder QAYG BOM QAL is done. Started in 2013 and finished 3/28/14...yeah me! My picture is not great as usual but there really was some blood involved in making this quilt. I snagged a pin through the skin on the tip of my thumb while putting the binding on. Not a place to put a band-aid so there is some of my personal signature on this quilt. It is okay it was practice and skill building for me and will be lovely with all it's flaws on my couch. :)

Putting the pieces together had me sweating a bit and when I carefully pinned and lined up the rows with the binding and they did not match up as pinned. So you guessed it there were a few tears...but I did not stop, I did not pop, I did my best (without ripping it out) and so passed the test! It is done.

Congrats! Very striking ........really like the design and your color choices! A finish is always nice......especially when they turn out this nice!

What a great finish, and 'satisfaction' sounds like the perfect name for it. You must be so happy with how it turned out, especially after the pain it gave you.

Flaws? What flaws? I see an absolutely stunning quilt that you should be extremely proud of. Your colour choices are amazing. This quilt is on my "Best Quilts, Ever" list. I love the name "Satisfaction".

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge.   I am a Maker 24" x 24" pattern by Liz Harvantine   HERE matchstick quilting I have loved this pattern since it came out and this is my third time in making the small wall hanging size.   It is really fun to make.  This piece was inspired by a piece of text fabric that a friend who happens to be co-chair of this quilt show, gave me a few weeks ago. It has text and sheet music on it. Then I found some fabric that has sewing pattern terms and quilt blocks on it. Some fabric with writing, photography, architecture and diagrams and put them all together to represent the makers of many beautiful things. This wall hanging will be donated to one of my local quilt guilds for their quilt show auction coming up Oct 6-8 to raise money for the guild.   I might have to buy it back I love it so much! Japandi - a bee quilt

Japandi 57" x 49"  improv crosshatch organic quilting a BeeUtifully Modern Bee quilt my Bee mates: Jen, Phyllis, Liz and Judy  This quilt is the first blocks my beemates and I made together.  I was up for Queen Bee first and I chose a combination of Japans wabi-sabi style mixed with the clean natural lines of Scandinavian design. Throw in asking for making your own stripes and a neutral palette and you get Japandi style! It took me 2 full length audio books to piece the blocks together once they were turned in. I think I figured close to 22 hours. It was a challenge to create balance and use up all the bits.  It is hard to tell from here but some of those little bits are tiny tiny bits, skinny lines and stripes.  With our Bee if you want your piece bigger you have to make quite a few blocks and bits to fill in. Hand dye scrappy HST

For some reason I found a few pics of this hand dyed quilt I made last year and realized I never posted about it.  I had a stack of hand dyed fabrics from various dye classes and decided to match them up with some lighter turmeric dyed fabric I made. All HST's made in groups of 4. This was super fun and fast to make.  Lots of trimming! I was inspired by this little arty thing I drew. The mix of colors worked pretty well. In person some of the dyes looked more muddy and I was glad this shows the contrast and how they did all work together. Leftover square sets went on the back. I decided hand quilting was best. It is big stitch. When I entered this in the county fair last year I heard the judge called it a toenail catcher. I don't get that....? I'm going to have to dig it out of storage to get the size but it was big enough to have to use my quilt hanger.  Well I know I still have some hand dyes to work with so maybe another scrappy type quilt this year.  I have to go see wh
