In the bleak winter...P.Q. 13.1 All the colors

Time for Project Quilting  13.1 first challenge of 2022 All the colors is the theme over at Persimon dreams website. I have been doing quite a few of these challenges since some of the first seasons. Sometimes you need a boost to get started on something.  This challenge was perfect to start because it is so cold and blah outside right now.  This quilt is 40" x 55"  fabric from stash, low volume backgrounds, solids, serpentine quilting The pattern I found in a quilt magazine I have been saving. Design is by Susan Ache and it is called "Postage Plus". I decided to start the challenge by picking a random magazine and making a random quilt that fit the challenge. I have so many books and magazines that are not getting used...as in made into quilts and I am saving them for that reason so ..why not?  I have been slow to get back to quilting so I thought to start small as in quilt size. PQ 12.5 = Crazy Memories

" Crazy Memories" 34" x 33.5" scrap vortex slab leftovers in my scrap bin decorative machine quilted and some hand big stitch Project Quilting Challenge this week is 'You're Crazy". You can see all the entries  HERE  . So many interpretations.  I wanted to do scrap something? for my challenge since I am also doing  Sewthescrapoutofmarch  with Tea and Brie for National Quilting month (march) When I was digging in my scrap jar, drawer, bag(s), bin, shelf....um, I found a bunch of scrap vortex(vomit some call it) that is leftover from a quilt top I made last year that still isn't quilted. :) I had to slice and dice some colors and sew bits here and there to get enough to make my rainbow square in a square.  I dug out some variegated threads to top stitch around the black areas. The 40 wt ones really showed nicely. It was fun to use those again. I learned that a top stitch needle in my machine worked really well as some of those scraps are seam upon sea...

P.Q. 14.6 Conquer a fear

Project Quilting 14.6 Posey Patch So Project quilting this week for 14.6 was Conquer a fear. While I  don't feel this was a fear really it was a bit of a challenge. I wanted to use scraps/stash as per usual this year AND I wanted to do some applique AND I wanted to incorporate a paint chip challenge that my friend and I came up with a few weeks ago. Also my goal was to make baby size quilts for each challenge this year so my finish is 41" x 42" I was able to use the bottom 5 color chips! Woot..... I drew up a loose applique design that I felt was kind of fun.  I used a bunch of odd sized scrap cuts. Sorted them into piles of widths and then just chain pieced them together and then cut at equal lengths. Like a jelly roll race sorta. Made a great background for my applique plus I actually used some of my stash up for a change. I just started drawing on fusible web paper and cut out on various colors and voila! Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. All scrap strings, scrap batting pieces and scrap binding.
