ALYoF March ~ Something from nothing, a scrap quilt

"Something from Nothing", a scrap quilt
51 x 52 1/2"
Leader and ender method started early 2014
650 2 1/2 squares with bits and snips of binding ends

A Lovely Year of Finishes
My goal was set HERE

I love all the bright snips of fabrics and I especially love that this was all throw away scraps. I should have made it bigger but with the mess of the stacks of 650 of these little blocks was enough AND this little guys is plenty heavy!! I spent all yesterday blocking it so it can hang on the wall. We will see if I get that done.

All stash scraps and scrappy stash backing too.  My stash is getting a work out this year and I am so happy!

My trouble on this one came with the straight line quilting. I knew I had to only quilt straight lines where the scrap corners were not. This is pretty bulky even though some of the seams are ironed open.   I started out with the idea of stitching down and then turning and stitching back up. I quickly saw that the top, no matter how many pins or spray starch wanted to pull both ways. Of course the worst row was in the middle but I quickly changed to just going one direction.

If anyone has any tips on how to now have the shift happen please leave me a note??????

Kim, you didn't say if you used a walking foot to quilt this lovely quilt. I know from experience that a walking foot can be the answer to a lot of nasty issues when straight line stitching.

Beautiful job Kris!
I have plans to do something like this some day, my pile of leaders and enders isn't very big yet.
My solution for the straight line quilting is to just use a long arm. (sorry if that wan't very helpful)

Congratulations on using up so many tiny pieces.
Oh I don't do tiny...but always admire anyone who does. Great little finish...LOVE your backing fabric!

Congrats on your finish! It is beautiful and I really like it.
Kris your quilt is beautiful! You have a wonderful mix of scrappiness combined with structure. The back works really well too, thoughtfully pieced.
