First WIP -Lucky

Image
Posh Lucky is 28" x 42"   The week after the first Project Quilting challenge (you can read about mine HERE  )I decided I should finish something I already had started.    I had a pile of cut outs from a Sew Kind of Wonderful ruler. I tend to keep a stack for practice or from demos I have taught. Now that I am a certified instructor ( HERE ) of their products I decided to get some more of the patterns made up. I also found in my stash an unusual batt. Have you ever

In the bleak winter...P.Q. 13.1 All the colors

Time for Project Quilting  13.1 first challenge of 2022 All the colors is the theme over at Persimon dreams website. I have been doing quite a few of these challenges since some of the first seasons. Sometimes you need a boost to get started on something.  This challenge was perfect to start because it is so cold and blah outside right now.  This quilt is 40" x 55"  fabric from stash, low volume backgrounds, solids, serpentine quilting The pattern I found in a quilt magazine I have been saving. Design is by Susan Ache and it is called "Postage Plus". I decided to start the challenge by picking a random magazine and making a random quilt that fit the challenge. I have so many books and magazines that are not getting used...as in made into quilts and I am saving them for that reason so ..why not?  I have been slow to get back to quilting so I thought to start small as in quilt size. I failed to realize that postage stamp blocks are usually tres small too.  This quilt

Sewing for Kids...again

Image
After my sew day with my sisters a few weeks ago I have been on a mission to go through my fabrics and put in one place all the kids fabrics I have been accumulating.  I discovered fabrics everywhere...ha surprising not!   It happened that the leader of our local quilts for kids had a medical issue come up before their sew day so I offered to make some kits with my fabric to help out.  I pulled out enough fabric to make several kits...no surprise there.  When I was finished with the kits I found I had some simple panels in my stash that I had collected. I decided they needed a little sprucing up so I added some pinwheels.  Took a little bit of figuring to make the pinwheels fit the panels. I didn't want to cut too much off and keep the quilt as big as I could. I think they turned out pretty cute.  When I finished the panels..yeah off my stash pile...I looked to a free baby quilt pattern from a quick internet search.  I used some computer fabric and one lowly piece of game fabric to

Sisters to the rescue

I have been feeling like I am not getting much done these days. I get a spurt to finish a UFO and then I think I am going to ride the wave of accomplishment and then....nada! I am working on a couple slow big stitch pieces and they are sloooooow going.haha.  I was feeling the need to accomplish something for good so I arranged a sisters gathering around one sisters birthday. 4 of us got together with machines in tow and put together the blocks I had buried a while back.  I had 3 kits from Quilts for Kids ready to go. One actually was a kit from the local organization that a fellow quilter could not get to so she gave it back to me. Instead of returning it undone I decided to get r dun and  make 2 more kits up and finish from my stash pile.  Simple quilting to finish. These are the blocks from a tutorial by Cluck Cluck Sew I love to use because it is so versatile.  My yard is torn up a bit but managed some so so pics. :) After all that I sat down and enjoyed some homemade jelly that one

Bee Break - Exercise

Gung Fu or the Study of F 37"x 24" Flexible Patterning Score by Sherri Lynn Wood My Bee mates and I had a slow year last year. We decided to start this year off with a bit of a prompt for ourselves and totally optional. I got out SLW's book of scores and chose 'flexible patterning'. I picked a shape to work with that I thought would be fun to build on. The letter F. I chose a teal blue on blue color palette added in a fun Marcia Derse print and black and started the process.  What I love about this process is that you can really let everything go. No measuring, no cutting precisely, no following directions. Any time I has a minute I just sliced off some fabric and made some kind of an F. Mixed up colors sizes whatever happened.  Building with the building blocks. Rearranging and playing, letting the shapes sort of morph.  Finally I had all the space filled in with the letter shape however it turned out. This took a long time...several months of playing but I am pr

PQ 12. 6 Ab Intra challenge

So Project Quilting 12.6 challenge is Ab Intra -Latin for 'from within'.  Once again I wanted to combine scraps for #nationalquiltingmonth #sewthescrapoutofmarch all month long. I thought of a couple things I could do but came back to starting with my favorite color combo black and white...and use prints I had in my scrap pile. The center sort of represents me and then building bits around is kind of like building on experiences. Using scraps was perfect for that because you never know what you will run into.  I got out some cardboard and did some measurements to see what I could come up with. My diamond fits on a strip of about 5.25 so I was able to cut quite a few out of strips left over from bits of FQ's etc.  The background pieces I fine tuned after I started doing the blocks.  I grabbed a stack of scrap strips and just started sewing. Once on I trimmed them down to about an 1". Some of my scraps were wonky but for this did didn't matter since I was trimming. I

Baby Paw

Image
This week was either wind and rain, or wind and cold or just wind. I have been chomping at the bit to get out and get some photos. Today it was sun and wind so I went out. I had moments when the quilt almost went into orbit but caught a few to share at least.  This is a Baby Paw. I have a great nephew that this is going to even though he just turned one already. ( I actually have his big brothers quilt even though he will turn 4) I digress.... ha I had a bunch of solid bright strips in various widths so went for it.  59" x 59" approx.  Quilted in a organic plaid fashion I had the cutest "Latifah Saafir" jump rope print that was perfect for the back of this one.  Off into the wild blue yonder...ha I hope to get this to him before he turns 5! Linking up with Kelly @  NTT over at My Quilt Infatuation  and surprise she featured my scrappy rainbow  Crazy Memories  which was part of the Project Quilting challenge going on over at PersimonDreams.  and  Off the Wall Fridays

Pool of Stars...

Image
"Pool of stars" updated washed and crinkly  "Pool of Stars"  Kona pool that is...get it?  and the big corner bits from my jar of scraps. Kona pool is one of my favorite colors on the Kona card. Just working with all the multi colored bits proves that pool goes with everything.  I just love it.  45" x 50" approx  Stash fabrics Machine straightline quilting All the larger bits from my jar after I sorted them. I used 110 pool 5" squares and  needed 220 bits. Not a problem.  Any size and any shape works A few bigger scraps on the back that I had saved in a bag....? why? I don't know..haha The red binding was fun. I found that in a bag of scraps that I think were my moms. I am all about using some of this stuff up. If you want to join in you can join #nqmonthscrapchallenge and #sewthescrapoutofmarch with  Tea and Brie on IG  find some fun info on the blog.  Linking up with  Sarah @Can I get a whoop                                              Can&
