A Lovely Year of Finishes!!! yippee and WIP

Image
It is that time again.   A lovely year of Finishes   over at Fiber of all sorts and Bittersweet Designs. I seriously was not sure if I was going to get to my Finish Challenge for the month. I have been working on those half hexis for a while now and was not sure how I wanted to finish it, if I wanted to make it bigger or what I was doing ...period.  The end of the month was approaching and I was ticking off the list of things I wanted to do this month yet.  The list is long so I decided that it would be better to just DO IT and get it done and have a finish to show for it. I am so glad I did. Here is my green half hexi quilt: Ta Da! Next up is a paper piece project that I am hoping to make into a pillow.  I am not sure I know what I am doing because there are so many pieces but I am willing to give it a go.

All sorts of finishes?

This was a busy week. At first I felt like I was not getting anything done. One goal was to complete another charity quilt with my Craftsy BOM from 2012.  I made myself get some out and just go for it.  Pretty busy but it is 6 more blocks used!!! yeah Then I put together my last 4 blocks from the  Modern BOM 2 Block #1 blocks. This one I will call "In and Out". I had to spiral quilt this one too because it was just so fun!! Then....while I was in a finishing mode I got out a couple small pieces that were from my moms stash. I thought the little girl print, which I think is a Daisy Kingdom print, works well in these little flannel backed preemie quilts for  Lincoln Quilts for Kids . I started planning what I want to do for the final  Project Quilting  challenge. :) and then there is my husband, Matt. He ran a 10k Saturday morning (when it was about 32 degrees F). He finshed 3rd in his age group....YES!!!  (he is in the white

Long holiday so I am a bit behind. I started 2 quick charity quilts for boys. I figured why make one when it is almost as fast to make two. I need to mak

Another Finish....I was not sure if I was going to do it this month. I wanted to do something with the 20 blocks I made over at the  Craftsy  BOM 2012. I picked two somewhat coordinating color themes with and accent in another color and hoped for the best. Well, they are pretty busy. I decided I didn't want them all in one quilt. So here is one charity quilt I made with 9 of the blocks so far.  The print for the back was donated by a gal at one of my quilt guilds and there is plenty more for me to do something with the other 11 blocks.  I will save that ....for another month.

Project Quilting #6- Hooray for Spring Challenge

Well here it is the final challenge for Project Quilting Season 4 sponsored by Persimon Dreams .  The last few weeks have really been something.  There has been lots of learning and experimenting AND lots of emotions.  Okay this challenge is "Hooray for Spring". Wide open and just about anything goes.   My quilt this week is sort of a quilt mash-up.  I received a letter from my sister in law containing and article about a man who makes these fabulous quilts with one block.   They are a kaleidoscope like block made from laying the repeat of the fabric print on top of each other and then you cut through enough layers to make a block.   I had some floral fabric and decided to try a few to see what would happen.  Fun!  I decided this looked like spring so I was going to see where this would go.   "You are a Seed" All the flower hexi shaped blocks are from one piece of fabric.  I have been hoarding the lovely little girl panel designed by Cori Dontini. I love

Project Quilting - 4:5

Wow! Another challenge -  Project Quilting -5 This one was called "Print Publications" page 28 My magazine stash consists of my moms collection of Quilt magazines. I didn't realize how hard it would be to come up with something from a Quilt magazine for a quilt but it really was....too many ideas in fact! My page 28 was from Quilter's Newsletter 2000.    The article is called "Heart and Soul" and it is a challenge in itself for people to come up with wearable art with the theme Heart and Soul. Well ???  In quilting, I feel my Heart and Soul goes back to the beginnings. I learned from my Mom and she believed in quilting, first, to be utilitarian. She used every scrap and item of clothing that was good enough to cut up into a quilt to create warmth and comfort for her family. Later she bought fabrics and created quilts she felt were to keep and used for special occasions.  I started my project thinking I would use scraps. Somehow I wanted to inco

WIP and ...a finish to wear!

I joined in the Linky this week with Lee at  Freshly Pieced   to keep the progress going on some small projects I have. This week I decided to try my luck with a hexi template my mom gave me and see what I could come up with. The verdict is still out but I am working with greens and black/gray and that I love! Stay tuned on that one.  Here is a Make it and Wear it Finish for the month! I cut this top out back in the fall and then set it aside when my mom passed and I hurt my back.  Now it is finished and I am really excited but...gained some weight and hope to lose it before it is nice enough out for me to wear it. :) It is Simplicity pattern 1884. Went together pretty easy and love the silky featherish fabric! Hope I can wear it soon.

Sew Thinky Thursday - Style and a Finish...again!

With todays questions:   Describe your quilting style. Who or what influences you? How do you see your style changing over time? Wow this is a hard question to ponder. I don't know if I can describe my quilting style if I don't really have one. I guess I can start by saying I like a lot of styles and types of quilting. I appreciate all the work that goes into each creation.  With that said, I like to try all kinds of things too but that doesn't mean I would hang them in my house. Does that make sense? Kitty quilt I pieced and mom quilted by hand. Not my style but thought it was a cute kids quilt and I wanted to do the applique.  Another one I wanted to piece. The orange fabric has sheep on it.  Branching out here with this mosaic tile quilt. Love the look...the colors not so much.  I do think of myself, right now at this moment, more of a modern quilter. I love the look and feel of where the modern quilt moment is going. I love the color..
