A Lovely Year of FinishesAnother Finish....I was not sure if I was going to do it this month. I wanted to do something with the 20 blocks I made over at the Craftsy BOM 2012. I picked two somewhat coordinating color themes with and accent in another color and hoped for the best. Well, they are pretty busy. I decided I didn't want them all in one quilt. So here is one charity quilt I made with 9 of the blocks so far. 

The print for the back was donated by a gal at one of my quilt guilds and there is plenty more for me to do something with the other 11 blocks. 
I will save that ....for another month.

Something about working on Group Quilts

  My local quilt guild took on a group project last year. We wanted to show a T.O.M. = technique of the month, to members and then have them try it. Most of the techniques were improv based giving some the opportunity to try them with no fear. We chose a color and size scheme.  We used coral and cream and we were pretty free about the corals including shades of reds and violets. Same with the creams including some whites. Block options were 12.5, 6.5 squares or 12.5 x 6.5. The result of the blocks turned in at each monthly meeting was wonderful.   We were able to make this Medallion style quilt 84". 84", a row by row style quilt 84" x 90", a lap sized throw 48" x 60" and a wall hanging 24" x 24".  Fabric of said colors were donated to piece together the backing and use any leftover blocks that may be left.  This one was quilted by a former member Sonya Nelsen on her longarm. P.Q. 13. 6 is a flying geese challenge

This weeks  Project Quilting Challenge  13.6 is Flying Geese.  T his is an easy block to incorporate into a challenge quilt. I am still trying to use my stash and patterns and rulers and oh.....flying geese temperature quilt sitting and waiting on the corner of my ironing board...Yes please.  You see I made myself a birthday month quilt top back in 2019. I had big plans of making a bigger quilt with my birthday month, my husbands and our wedding anniversary month.  Then I made my birthday month using a book by Carl Hentsch published by  C and T publishing   called New York Beauties and Flying Geese. It is foundation pieced on paper but....I don't like to do foundation pieced blocks on paper so I made freezer paper changes. Okay so that worked but it WAS work. In the bleak winter...P.Q. 13.1 All the colors

Time for Project Quilting  13.1 first challenge of 2022 All the colors is the theme over at Persimon dreams website. I have been doing quite a few of these challenges since some of the first seasons. Sometimes you need a boost to get started on something.  This challenge was perfect to start because it is so cold and blah outside right now.  This quilt is 40" x 55"  fabric from stash, low volume backgrounds, solids, serpentine quilting The pattern I found in a quilt magazine I have been saving. Design is by Susan Ache and it is called "Postage Plus". I decided to start the challenge by picking a random magazine and making a random quilt that fit the challenge. I have so many books and magazines that are not getting used...as in made into quilts and I am saving them for that reason so ..why not?  I have been slow to get back to quilting so I thought to start small as in quilt size. PQ 12.5 = Crazy Memories

" Crazy Memories" 34" x 33.5" scrap vortex slab leftovers in my scrap bin decorative machine quilted and some hand big stitch Project Quilting Challenge this week is 'You're Crazy". You can see all the entries  HERE  . So many interpretations.  I wanted to do scrap something? for my challenge since I am also doing  Sewthescrapoutofmarch  with Tea and Brie for National Quilting month (march) When I was digging in my scrap jar, drawer, bag(s), bin, shelf....um, I found a bunch of scrap vortex(vomit some call it) that is leftover from a quilt top I made last year that still isn't quilted. :) I had to slice and dice some colors and sew bits here and there to get enough to make my rainbow square in a square.  I dug out some variegated threads to top stitch around the black areas. The 40 wt ones really showed nicely. It was fun to use those again. I learned that a top stitch needle in my machine worked really well as some of those scraps are seam upon sea...
