WIP on DYO sampler for summer SMS-along




....And that is saying something! :P I have to let you all know I am just glad to be saying or showing anything at all. I have been so blah lately. Too many things going on and not enough going right or what have you. I hope this is the start of something good!!

I have wanted to do the DYO Sampler quilt posted by Sarah Schraw @Sarahquilts to SewMamaSew Summer sew along HERE.
I used Sarah's layout because I already had some orphan blocks in mind and they fit into a couple of her size places. I also dug into my scraps and found strips and bits to piece together for more scrap blocks that fit pretty easy.

It is hectic and I like it. I am just so (sew) happy to get through some scraps and use up these orphans.

Super old orphan - school house block. I found it in an old sewing box I had and thought I could make it work in with my others. I don't even think they are cotton fabrics in that block???  I am pretty sure, if memory serves, that my mom was trying to show me how to draw up a block pattern from a picture. I think it now is at home in this crazy quilt.  A couple of the wonky log cabins I had from sitting and playing with my scraps. I was going to do a total wonky log cabin quilt but these two fit here I think. Scrappy cross blocks along the bottom for fun.

Some of my bigger blocks are orphans from the 2012 Crafty BOM. I spit up some of the blocks to go into different smaller quilts so I could give more to local charities.  You can see one of them HERE

Scrap shapes that were left over from my day at the Accuquilt studio. They were almost perfect petals so I could not throw them away. (Scraps not overflowing at my house..haha!) See the petals in the top Left block...I even applique stitched them!

So far so fun! I am making a huge mess with piles of strips and scraps everywhere but if that is what it takes to get something done I am going to force myself not to clean it up!!!!! :)

Well done for doing so much in that Design your own Quilt project. I've been thinking about it, but that's as far as it's got: thinking! I love the idea though, of planning the different block sizes, and then making blocks to fit. A real riot, and everyone's will be different.

Glad to hear you are having a lot of messy fun with this scrappy orphan quilt. I love that house block and it looks great right in there among all the others. Looks like all your orphans have found a 'Home, Sweet, Home'.

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. WIP - End of Summer

The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Around the Block Party!

"Around the Block" party finish this week. 40 "x 40" approx.  My last week was so productive that I only have a small finish so far this week.  My lqg got together one afternoon to make improv house blocks. It was so much fun that I made a whole block party of them.  I was trying out an idea for a color challenge using a paint chip that has 3 colors. This one had an amber orange color, a chocolate brown and an aqua. I sort of mixed in some gold too but it was fun trying out a color scheme like this and I think it would be fun guild project.  I love how they turned out and and it has started some talk about doing some outreach work for Habitat for Humanity homes. Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

  Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry! We have had nothing but high winds the last couple of days.  Lovely looking scorched ironing board in the corner and all for your viewing pleasure.:) I will be linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday Now I am going to let you know that yesterday was my 100th post ! whoop whoopie!!!  AND....
