Purge progress = Some success

First up on my "Purge" progress is I made up some kits (4 complete kits and one partial that I will just sew up myself) for people to make when they visit the "Quilts for Kids" booth at the county fair next week. There will be a table set up with information about this charity.  If sewers are really interested in doing some work for this charity, Quilts for Kids provides patterns and fabric (already cut) and the backing and binding to make up this quilt. They give it to you in good faith to go home and add your own batting, sew it up and return it washed and ready to go to a sick child at our local hospitals.

Recently this charity donated some of their quilts to two towns nearby that were hit by tornados this year.

Which brings me to my next "purge" item: Scrap Happy 3 which is going to my guilds quilt drive. Omaha Modern Quilt Guild has linked up with Quilts of Compassion and Accuquilt to deliver quilts to needy families that were hit by the twin tornados. (yep that was us at Accuquilt last Friday)  :)

So this is what I started after cutting strip kits for other sewers using the nifty Studio cutter.

This is the Maureen Cracknell Herringbone QAYG method from here
My other two of this version I posted when I started this purge. here
This finally made a dent in my shoe box of scraps. I didn't cut any new strips and I just used whatever came out of the box. I think it turned out kind of groovy! This is a very relaxing way to sew I will just tell you and it is quite heavy when finished.

What a great idea to make up the kits! I have some string blocks that I started a lot of years ago but never did anything with. I should pull mine out and make up some charity tops for when I go away next May.
I travel every May to Indiana to a retreat with some online friends and we each donate 1 top to a woman's shelter....I could probably donate a few extra!
It's so nice to see all the PURGE projects!

I have been wanting to get involved with Quilts For Kids, such a great cause! Love your string quilt. This is my first time to your blog. Where are you from in NE? My husband and I are from NE originally. My mom and sister live in Valentine, a sister in Lincoln and my husband's family is also from the Thedford/Valentine area. Nice to meet you :)

What a great use of scraps! I saw the QAYG herringbone on Maureen's blog and have been wanting to try one. Thanks for linking up with 100 Quilts for Kids!
