Improv cross plus in gingham

A while ago I saw a free pattern from Robert Kaufman made out of Kona called Kona Crossing. I thought it was super cute and would be an easy piece to change size on and make into a fun child size quilt. This is my interpretation made out of these fun gingham looking cottons I had. 
 I have to admit this is super cute! Some little girl is going to love this. 


and because the next photo had too much background clutter I zipped it up in a filter which turned out way cool.

Also for fun........
I decided to add some shibori (itajime) type folding and some black rit dye to some gray dish towels. They turned out so cool. :)

What fun quilt and a nice size for a baby quilt! The ginghams paired with solids and the placement of each really emphasizes the plus theme. And, the pops of yellow adds just the right sparkle in the quilt.

I love the baby quilt -- it's so bright and fun. But I REALLY love that dish towel! I never thought to try that with RIT dye. It looks awesome.

This was a really great fabric variation for this quilt pattern! I love gingham and often buy but haven't used much--yet! It was this that brought me over from Kelly's My Quilt Infatuation blog. Printed the pattern already, then I saw Pojagi curtains. Be still my heart.

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. I am sure I will do something more artsy before the challenge is over but for today I am going with a version of a scrap quilt.  The Challenge is "String Along with Me" I used the same strip quilt as you go as I did in a quilt I made last Oct following Maureen Cracknell and her Herringbone QAYG quilt tutorial.  This was is called Scrappy II  it is 43 x 45. WIP - End of Summer

The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Around the Block Party!

"Around the Block" party finish this week. 40 "x 40" approx.  My last week was so productive that I only have a small finish so far this week.  My lqg got together one afternoon to make improv house blocks. It was so much fun that I made a whole block party of them.  I was trying out an idea for a color challenge using a paint chip that has 3 colors. This one had an amber orange color, a chocolate brown and an aqua. I sort of mixed in some gold too but it was fun trying out a color scheme like this and I think it would be fun guild project.  I love how they turned out and and it has started some talk about doing some outreach work for Habitat for Humanity homes. Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

  Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry! We have had nothing but high winds the last couple of days.  Lovely looking scorched ironing board in the corner and all for your viewing pleasure.:) I will be linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday Now I am going to let you know that yesterday was my 100th post ! whoop whoopie!!!  AND....
