UFO busting - Seeing Spots!


I am not even sure when this little quilt was started. I know I had access to an Accuquilt machine at a local sewday. I cut out the circles and fusible circles too. I got home and started using some fancy stitches on my sewing machine to go around the edges.  I also remember taking them to a sew day at our county fair to sew on while being in the Quilts for Kids booth. The year? I am not sure. 


I am pretty sure this quilt did not want to be finished. I found the blocks when looking for materials to make masks out of. 
I thought, I can sew this up quickly. I did, and then I pressed it and then had to sew the whole thing again because my antique iron melted the thread in about 75% of it. Yes melted. I could see the thread go from shiny to dull and then I rubbed it. The thread actually came up from one side like tiny beads on a strand. So very odd. I have used that thread since and the same iron and nothing??

Anyway, to be safe I sewed it again and quilted it with a different machine. I am not sure I should give this one to QFKs incase? also it is stiffer since using fusible behind the whole circles. Still I love how happy this is.

My backing is really not the right color orange but who could resist not to use it for this quilt.

So many circles! I think the backing is perfect for that quilt. I can't believe the thread melted. What a hassle! It's a great quilt.

I agree with Painted Thread; your backing fabric is perfect. What I love most about this quilt is all of the different shades of reds and oranges in the top, so it doesn't need a super matchy-matchy backing. Also, it's a great size for a wall hanging, and as a wall hanging, stiffness is beneficial rather than a liability. Too weird about the melted thread!! Was it 100% cotton thread or something else? No chance you accidentally used one of those basting threads that is supposed to melt or disappear, is there?

Project Quilting Season 5 - #1

  So excited that Kim over at  Persimon Dreams is hosting Project Quilting again this year. It was so fun last year and I accomplished a lot.  This year I had so many ideas for this first Challenge. I wanted to do something more arty but when it came down to it I really need to make lap or baby size quilts for some of the charities I contribute to. WIP - End of Summer

The weather lately means it is the end of summer. I still think my new quilt block quilt is pretty sizzling hot!  I love this block and how it came together. So far I added the corner stones and surrounding half stones. I really don't think I want a border on this but will use the orange or yellow for binding maybe. Still deciding. No idea how I am going to quilt around those jagged blocks yet either. Any ideas?  I have the back pieced and should try to get to it yet this week. Around the Block Party!

"Around the Block" party finish this week. 40 "x 40" approx.  My last week was so productive that I only have a small finish so far this week.  My lqg got together one afternoon to make improv house blocks. It was so much fun that I made a whole block party of them.  I was trying out an idea for a color challenge using a paint chip that has 3 colors. This one had an amber orange color, a chocolate brown and an aqua. I sort of mixed in some gold too but it was fun trying out a color scheme like this and I think it would be fun guild project.  I love how they turned out and and it has started some talk about doing some outreach work for Habitat for Humanity homes. Finish it up Friday and S'more Love Giveaway

  Today I have a quilt top done from my "Goodnight Irene" QAL over at Terry's Treasures HERE .  This was a pretty fast and fun put together. Few issues along the way but now going to piece a back and get this baby quilted. Today...or tomorrow...or soon!!!!   I decided to go 5 x 7 rows and then add the border. I think it will be a pretty good size. I am going to use more fat quarters for the back I think. The mix of prints and colors worked pretty well overall. Indoor pic..sorry! We have had nothing but high winds the last couple of days.  Lovely looking scorched ironing board in the corner and all for your viewing pleasure.:) I will be linking up with  Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday Now I am going to let you know that yesterday was my 100th post ! whoop whoopie!!!  AND....
